A multitude of activities were taking place in the small villages I visited with PACT when I was photographing for this Not For Profit organization early in 2014 in Myanmar. Women were being treated by a mobile health clinic for pre and post natal care, babies weighed, hygiene lessons being taught by local trainers, nutritional lessons and hand washing sessions, micro financing programs for women being explained and agricultural programs being established. All programs emphasise the ownership of the work being placed firmly into local peoples control by training a core group for each of the projects to ensure the sustainability of the work.
The Burmese people were some of the most welcoming people I’ve met in my travels, so excited to welcome outsiders with traditional food offered at every opening, and smiling thanaka painted faces.
